Birthday Celebration Playdate

Emry has some special friends who we met through breast-feeding group. She met most of them when she was a month old and we've continued to get together ever since. Now the kids are all one! Emry was the last one with a birthday. One of the moms had a great idea to celebrate all their birthdays with a gift exchange. We each drew a name and had the kids open gifts this past Tuesday at our latest playgroup. Emry was the fusser (again) and I'm certain it was because she was feeling the effects of her vaccines from the day before. She was whiny and clingy the entire time. At least her friends had fun. The theme of the evening was, let's drink out of someone else's sippy cup. In the first pic, Emry is crying and trying to escape her gift opening. All the other kids are lovin' their presents!

1 Year Checkup

Now that Emry is leaving the "baby" world and entering toddler-ville, the docs wanted to check on her to make sure she's A-okay. She showed off a little for the doc with a few words and signs. She's 50th percentile for weight, 95th for head circumference, and 95th for length. Unfortunately, Steve had the stomach flu so he wasn't able to go with us and help with the shot portion. I don't particularly like needles/shots but I got tough for my baby and held her hands for the first shot in the thigh, then held her standing up for the shots in each arm. On the third and last shot, she screamed bloody murder. I HATE seeing her in pain! It took her a few minutes to recover but all in all, she was a trooper. Here is what Emry is up to these days: ~ sleeps from 7:30pm -7:00am on work days and 8:00 am on the weekend ~ Takes two, 2-hr naps ~ Is crawling everywhere ~ can go up and down stairs independently (we have to help her get turned around before going down) ~ pulls up and lets go for a few seconds ~ can walk behind her push toy ~ eats all table food ~ is transitioning from formula to whole milk ~ says: da-da, uu-p, teee-teee (teet & eat), yyoww (meow), fff-fff (ruff), ba-ba (bottle), baaa (ball), iiieee (hi), she tries to mimic a lot but it's too difficult to spell out her inventive language ~ is very attentive when we read books and points to things in the pictures ~ plays her glow-worm baby nonstop before she falls asleep or when she wakes up ~ is still in love with her paci...we try to only offer it at naps and bedtime ~ LOVES, LOVES brushing her teeth and baths ~ can crawl up on the seat of her rocking chair and turn herself around to face forward ~ can sign: more, please, eat, all done, milk As always, I'm probably forgetting to mention something. All you have to know is that we love our girl and she is our FAVORITE thing EVER!

Party for E!

Emry's party was a success! Family traveled from far and friends from near to help celebrate. She was semi-interested in opening her gifts so I had to make up for her lack of enthusiasm (evident in the pictures) and she did pretty well with her smash cake. It took some coaxing but she finally dug in and wore the frosting. Everyone else enjoyed a cupcake made by yours truly. The zebra/hot pink theme accidentally evolved from the birthday outfit I ordered at Payton's Closet on the Liberty Square. I happened to find Zebra cupcake liners, napkins, and streamers so that was that. Steve made a sweet video with still shots and video clips from her first year. Several teary eyes were in the house during its debut. A HUGE thank you to everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to make this special for her. We appreciate your love and generosity. Emry has no idea how many people love her. I can't wait to show her the video/photos from this celebration so she can see.

I'm 1 !!!

Our precious girl is no longer a baby, she is entering the toddler world! Steve and I are in shock that the year has passed by so quickly. One little person has fulfilled our lives, made us laugh, cry, and helped create so many special memories. Leading up to this day, we reminisced about the events of her birth. I won't recap (you can go back to the Jan. 2010 post) but the angels danced in heaven, and in the blink of an eye, were were parents! I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to raise a such a special girl with my best friend (cheesy, but true). We can't imagine what the years ahead will have in store for our little family. I took the day off of work to spend it with Emry and prepare for her party. Here are a few shots on HER day. :)

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!

Steve and I had our first snow day of the year yesterday! Steve received a text around 5:00 in the morning and I received mine 10 minutes later. I was like a little kid because I couldn't fall back to sleep and got up at 5:40...yeesh! We had a great day off together but the best part was bringing Emry out in the snow for the first time. She loved watching daddy shovel the driveway. She wasn't too interested in moving as she sat in the same position. This may have been because her warm gear restricted her movement. We are enjoying our second snow day as I type. Soooo...we've had a nice, unexpected 4-day weekend.

Little Bear Cub

Steve and I love, love, love these jammies! We think Emry looks like a bear cub. Notice in the first picture she's showin' me where her belly is.
