Cuddling With Daddy

We had another snow day...which makes 6 total. Steve and Emry took a snooze together on the couch. Too cute!

Feeling Sick + Parenting = NOT FUN!

I forgot to mention that Emry got her first cold the Friday before the Super Bowl and sadly, I think I gave it to her. I thought I was completely over the bug but I woke up from a nap yesterday feeling terribly achey. My left breast was also pretty sore. I decided to see how I felt this morning and ended up having a fever of 100.1 along with the same symptoms as yesterday. My lactation consultant was confident that I have mastitis which is an infection in the breast that can cause a fever and flu-like symptoms. Thankfully I'm on medication so I hope it kicks in soon. As many of you know, it's not fun feeling like crap while you have an infant completely dependent on you.

First Valentine's Day!

Emry appreciates all the cards/gifts she received from her grandparents and great-grandparents! Thank you, thank you! On Saturday, Steve and Emry created a scavenger hunt for me. All the clues were typed by Emry...what a smart little girl! ;) They eventually led me to a gift certificate for a pedicure, a romantic movie to watch with Steve, fuzzy/comfy socks, and a diffuser refill that was much needed. Steve also made a fabulous dinner that evening. I was so spoiled! Then, Sunday morning, Emry bought a card for Steve all by herself. She also gave him a box of chocolates and then she and I took him out to breakfast. It was a wonderful family Valentine's day! Here is a picture of how Emry presented her card and gift to Steve.

Precious Sleeper

Steve just melted at the way Emry was posing while she snuggled with him. He insisted on capturing it with a picture. What a sweet daddy!

I'm 4 weeks old today!

It's hard to believe that Emry is already 4 weeks old! Time is flying by! I cherish every minute I get to spend with our precious daughter. She is having more wake time during the day and slept like a champ last night. She went 5 hours and 4 hours between night feedings, I was shocked! She holds her head up for short intervals when she lays on our chest and is able to move her head from one side to the other during tummy time. What a strong girl! I never imagined I could have so much love for one little person. God has truly blessed Steve and I.

Milk is My Favorite!

Baby girl sure does like her milk! We went to a breastfeeding support group today, for the first time and found out Emry gained 12 ounces in a week! She is weighing in at 8 lbs 10 oz. Way to go girl! I was a little worried because she wasn't feeding 10 minutes or more on each side, each feeding. Silly me, she's just become a more efficient eater. Keep up the good work little missy!

No More Pictures Mom!

A Surprise Visit from G & G Sheriff

Steve's dad is currently working in El Dorado, KS on a business project and decided last minute to come to the Liberty area for his day off on Sunday. Steve's mom drove down from West Des Moines to meet him and they ended up visiting us both Saturday evening and Sunday early afternoon. Emry just LOVED the time she spent with her Grandma and Grandpa.

First blow outs!

In less than a day, Emry managed to have 3 blow outs! I'm becoming quite the expert at getting poop stains out of baby clothes/blankets. Here's a run down of each incident: #1. Last night. Already strapped in carseat ready to leave the house. I heard her poo, took her out of the car seat to find that pooped had escaped the side of her diaper and soaked through her onesie and outfit. 10 minutes later, we were out the door. #2. This morning. I was in the middle of changing her before her next feeding. I had the new diaper underneath her old one ready to make the switch. After one swipe on her bottom with a baby wipe, poop shot out all the while she was peeing straight up. Both got all over her, me, and the changing table. She was already crying because she was hungry and the emergency bath made it that much worse. She was crying bloody murder, not a noise I had ever heard. After the bath, I had to rinse the fabrics and throw them in the laundry before everything dried and stained. So about 20 minutes after my first attempt to change her, she finally got her breakfast. Poor baby. #3. This afternoon. After the changing table ordeal, I swaddled her and put her in the swing. When I got her out to change and feed her, I noticed poop had once again escaped the side of her diaper all over her receiving blanket, on her foot/shin, and her onesie. This time, I decided to wipe the poo off of her with wipes instead of torturing her with another bath. After this, I decided the generic diapers we were given via a diaper cake probably aren't the best and she might be ready for size 1 diapers instead of the newborns. I'm waiting to see if my theory is correct. How much baby poo can one mom have on her knuckles? A LOT!

So Sweet

Emry has been much more alert these past few days. It's been so fun to watch her try to focus on things. I love her to pieces and can't believe how much she has changed in three weeks.

Our Little Family

Visitors from Iowa

Steve's mom, oldest brother and family traveled to KC, to meet Emry. It was Sam, Maddie, and Zach's first visit to our house. Emry definitely LOVED being held all day and didn't mind being the center of attention. Thanks again for coming...we love you! Cuddling with Uncle Phil and Aunt Michelle on the couch.
